Recently we have received Artists Updates from some of the past winners of the Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship

 

Natalie Aroyan – soprano (2008)
Natalie returned to the Australian stage as Micaela with Opera Australia earlier this year and in 2018 made her debut as Aida; she will also be making her much anticipated Wagner debut as Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in November.

Bronwyn Douglass – mezzo-soprano (2017)
Currently undertaking the 2017 Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship in New York.

Anna Dowsley – mezzo-soprano (2012)
Anna actually today is in the United Kingdom with her art song duo partner Heleen Vegter in a Residential Mastercourse as part of the Oxford Lieder Festival. Highlights for next season include returning to some of her favourite roles with Opera Australia (Dorabella, Cherubino and Siebel), performing in her first Donizetti opera (Mark Smeton in Anna Bolena) and singing with Pinchgut Opera for the first time. She also very excited to be preparing and covering one of her dream roles, Charlotte, for Opera Australia’s production of Werther.

Samuel Dundas – baritone (2013)
In 2018 Samuel performed Prosdocimo in The Turk in Italy and Marcello in La Boheme on the Harbour with Opera Australia and very recently performed Golaud in Pelléas et Mélisande with Victorian Opera.

Simone Easthope – soprano (2010)
After winning the Scholarship Simone studied and graduated from The Juilliard School in New York. In 2012, she won third prize in the International Robert Schumann Competition, held in Zwickau every four years. She was also featured as soprano soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah under the baton of Maestro Helmuth Rilling, with the Orchestra e Coro Sinfonica di Milano ‘Giuseppe Verdi’. She was a participant in the inaugural Internationale Meistersinger Akademie, in Neumarkt, Germany, where she performed in an Opera Aria Recital and a Liederabend on National Bavarian Radio. Opera roles include Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten, Therese/Tirésias in Les Mamelles de Tirésias by Poulenc, Angélique in Angélique by Jacques Ibert and Despina in Così fan Tutte. Simone currently resides in Berlin.

Alexander Lewis – baritone (2006)
We are delighted Alexander is our 2018 Guest Artist and his successful career is outlined in his biography earlier in the program.

Elizabeth Lewis – soprano (2015)
After winning the Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship Elizabeth moved to Chicago where she currently resides and studies. Elizabeth was a member of the Gate City Bank Young Artist Program 2017 with Fargo-Moorhead Opera. While with the company, she sang the roles of Daters 5, 8 and 22 in Speed Dating Tonight! She also performed the role of Edith in The Pirates of Penzance and has sung Rosalinda in Johann Strauss Jr’s Die Fledermaus with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera. Elizabeth was one of five Finalists in the 2018 Elizabeth Connell Prize for Dramatic Sopranos. In December Elizabeth will sing the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos under the baton of Simone Young in her hometown of Brisbane, Australia.

David Parkin – bass (2009)
David won the Foundation’s Vienna State Opera Award in 2013 and has performed many principal roles with Opera Australia and in 2018 performed Capellio in I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Arkel in Pelléas et Mélisande with Victorian Opera.

Clarissa Spata – soprano (2011)
In 2018 Clarissa covered her absolute dream role (Musetta) for Opera Australia’s La Boheme on Sydney Harbour, performed the role of Papagena on the Opera Australia National Tour of The Magic Flute, and toured China as First Lady in the Australian International Production tour of China in Die Zauberflöte, as well as the principal Soprano in a Highlights of Music Theatre tour of China. Before those tours and after winning the Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship she went on to do more Opera Australia school tours, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Pamina and First Lady/Queen of the Night/Papagena in The Magic Flute and Rosina in The Barber of Seville. For the past 18 months she has also been guest artist principal Soprano for Princess Cruises mainstage Production Show, singing popular operatic excerpts and performing to audiences around the world. Currently she is in China performing the role of the High Priestess in the Australian International Production of Aida.
